The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and the city administration sealed the basements of a superstore on Rashid Minhas Road in District East, a shopping centre and a plaza in Saddar in Saddar on Friday.

District East Deputy Commissioner Shehzad Fazal Abbasi and District South Deputy Commissioner Altaf Sario presented the operation report to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi after administration sealed the basement of Imtiaz Store on Rashid Minhas Road in District East, Hashmi Center and Madina Plaza in Saddar on Friday.

The report stated that illegal encroachments were established in the parking spaces of these buildings. The SBCA has issued warning notices, which have been posted on the buildings, stating that any attempt to break the seals will result in further action. The notices emphasise that using parking areas for purposes other than parking in commercial buildings is illegal.

The building owners had long been warned to use the designated parking spaces for parking only, but the implementation of this decision had been delayed. The report highlighted that all legal requirements were fulfilled before the operation was conducted.

Commissioner Naqvi remarked that restoring parking spaces would help improve traffic flow in the city. He stated that parking in all commercial buildings would be restored. Traffic police have proposed actions to restore parking in 31 buildings in the first phase.
