6-year-old girl, uncle drown in well

NOWSHERA: A six-year-old girl and her uncle drowned in a well in the Jehangira area of the district on Friday.

Akhtar Ali, a resident of Nihalpura, told the police that his niece was sitting on a marble plank placed over an old well. However, the girl fell into the well when the plank broke. Ali further said that his brother Fazal Muhammad also jumped into the well to save his niece. However, he added, both the uncle and niece died of poisonous gas inside the well.

Two relatives of the deceased were also taken inside the well through ropes, but they could not rescue bodies due to extremely poisonous gas in the well.Later on, the Rescue 1122 personnel arrived at the scene and they removed all lids from the well to release all gas. They also retrieved the bodies after two hours of hectic efforts.Both the bodies were shifted to Qazi Hussain Ahmed Medical Complex for post-mortem and later landed over to the family.
