Helen Mary Robert chair inaugurated at UHE
LAHORE:The University of Home Economics (UHE), Lahore, inaugurated the Helen Mary Robert chair for Peace and Conflict Studies under the Department of History and Pakistan Studies. The event was graced by Brigadier Dr Helen Mary, who was specially invited as the guest of honour.
Addressing the event, UHE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi said: "Pakistan is a peace-loving country, and we take immense pride in being its citizens." She termed Brigadier Dr Helen Mary the pride of the Pakistan Army and emphasised the significance of the established chair aimed at conducting research to promote peace.
Underscoring the role of academic institutions in fostering harmony in the country, the VC said universities should act as ambassadors of peace. In her keynote address, Brigadier Dr Helen stressed the importance of education to serve humanity. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing tradition of being a peace-loving nation and urged everyone to carry this legacy forward.
"We must encourage one another and work together to make Pakistan a cradle of peace," she said. Dr Helen also said education is not merely pursuing a degree but a means to develop individuals into better human beings. She called on all Pakistanis to contribute toward enhancing the nation's image on the global stage. "Education, service to humanity, and peace are interconnected," she explained, adding that by valuing education and sustaining peace, Pakistan can ensure a brighter future.
Dr Helen’ message education, peace, and service to humanity resonated with the audience. UHE Registrar Shujaat Muneef Qureshi, faculty members, and students expressed their support for the initiative.
