PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday dismissed the writ petition against the appointment of pro-vice-chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, (Awkum) and directed the provincial government and the parties to continue the process of recruitment for pro-VC.

A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Ijaz Khan Sabi heard the petition filed by Prof Zahoorul Haq seeking his appointment as pro-vice-chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan.

Counsel for the petitioner informed the court that his client was on the top of merit list but the government was going to appoint a blue eyed person as Pro-VC for Awkum. He pleaded that the petitioner had already remained faculty dean and now he again became dean in July last.

Advocate General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel told the court that the government had initiated the process of appointment of pro-VC. He said that the government had decided to pick pro-VC from the professors if the dean was not available for the same.

Awkum’s lawyer Mansoor Tariq said that three names would be sent to the government, which willould also contain the name of the petitioner. It was now up to the government who was to be appointed as pro-VC, he added.
