Court issues notice to Mahmood Shah in damages suit

PESHAWAR: A local court on Thursday issued notice to Brig (retd) Mahmood Shah in the defamation suit of Rs100 million filed by Member National Assembly Faisal Amin Gandapur, the brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Peshawar, Abdul Qayyum, issued notice to ex-military officials in the damages case for levelling baseless allegations against the Gandapur family.Ali Azim Afridi advocate, counsel for Faisal Amin Gandapur, said that his client was an MNA against whom Brig (retd) Mahmood Shah had levelled baseless allegations against the petitioner and his family.

He pleaded that the respondent had linked the Gandapur family with the Taliban, which was not correct and unfounded.According to the application, the integrity and prestige of the petitioner and his family and the Gandapur tribe have been damaged owing to these allegations.

It said that the applicant has also been a provincial minister and now an MNA, while his brother is the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.“The court should call Mahmood Shah and ask him as to why he gave the baseless statement against the Gandapur family,” the application read, adding that the applicant had also sent a legal notice to him but he did not respond to it.
