Students asked to plant more trees

PESHAWAR: Speakers urged the students to participate in plantation campaign to avoid hazards of climate change as trees were the only source to allay effects of rising temperature and play a vital role in balancing nature.

An event was arranged under the banner of Botanical Society in collaboration with Clean and Green drive on the lawn of a local school and college to launch a tree plantation campaign.Prof Nasrullah Khan, chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary, Peshawar, was the chief guest while Prof Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, Principal of the institution was also present.

Addressing the event, Prof Nasrullah Khan said that everyone must plant a sapling to contribute to mother nature and balance the ecosystem.“Planting trees was a must for our survival and every individual should be made responsible to plant, grow and save at least one tree and students in particular should be taught the importance of trees,” he added.

“The plantation society of Peshawar Public School and College has planted over 500 saplings during the ongoing tree plantation drive. All the members of our teaching faculty have been assigned the duty to plant over 500 more trees on the campus,” Prof Iftikhar Ahmad Khan told the gathering.

Prof Farmanullah Khan, chief of Clean and Green Society on the occasion said his society had been organizing different activities including speech, painting and essay competitions, and live theatrical performances to sensitize the students on the significance of trees. “Teachers and students are encouraged to protect plants on the campus and also motivate others to work for the clean and green environment,” he added.
