This refers to the letter ‘Skilled exodus’ (August 19, 2024) by Laiba Mushtaque. Decades of education are rendered futile in Pakistan due to the absence of opportunities, leading to brain drain. However, this is not an unsolvable problem. With concerted efforts from the government, we can provide opportunities for our educated youth, harnessing their talents to drive growth and development in Pakistan. The government can create job opportunities in emerging fields like technology and renewable energy, providing training and development programs to enhance skills and employability.
It can also encourage entrepreneurship and innovation through initiatives like incubators and funding schemes and foster partnerships between academia and industry to ensure relevant education and research. This framework can include initiatives like mentorship programmes, career counselling, and skills development workshops. I urge the government to give immediate attention to this pressing issue and work towards creating opportunities for our educated youth.
