KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to implement licencing conditions for the sale of agricultural pesticides, fertilizers, and seeds, which will now be issued to individuals holding an agricultural degree.

The Minister for Agriculture, Anti-Corruption, Sports, and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar announced this decision, stating that graduates in agriculture will be supported financially for personal business ventures and startups.

He made these remarks while attending a three-day workshop organized by the Department of Agriculture, Sindh, at a research centre on Thursday. The workshop aimed to train 43 women in the use and maintenance of tractors and other modern agricultural machinery.

During his conversation with journalists, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar emphasized the government’s focus on empowering female students in the agricultural sector by providing them with relevant training. “The workshop’s objective is to teach women the methods of farming, including operating and repairing tractors. Women participating in this programme will have the opportunity to purchase tractors at subsidised rates,” he added.

Mahar said that women could also rent out the tractors as a source of income. He underscored the necessity of providing agricultural education along with other training to farmers in Sindh. The minister also revealed that stringent actions are being taken against counterfeit companies selling agricultural products.

In response to a question, the provincial minister stated that the amount of work done in Sindh is unparalleled. He urged critics from other provinces to introspect before making accusations. Without naming anyone, he affirmed that his department is committed to its work and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy. Officials failing to perform will face strict actions.
