Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested another suspect allegedly involved in the killing of two people during a robbery of Rs13.5 million in the Metroville area. Earlier his companion was killed during an alleged encounter with the police on Saturday.

The suspect was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in the Pak Colony area. He was identified as Rehmat, son of Haji Abdul Qayyum. Police also claimed to have recovered a pistol and Rs500,000 in cash from his possession.

Police said the arrested suspect along with his companion Abdur Rauf, who has now been killed in a police encounter, on April 8 this year conducted a robbery in the Metroville area, killed a poultry farm cashier Sher Alam and his companion Zaki and escaped after stealing Rs13.5 million.

The arrested suspect during the initial course of interrogation revealed that both the suspects after committing the robbery had escaped to Quetta via a bus and later, Rauf escaped to Afghanistan.

Earlier on August 10, Zone South DIG Asad Raza accompanied by District Keamari SSP Captain (retd) Faizan Ali held a press conference and told the media that the police conducted a raid on a tip-off about a presence of a suspect at a house in Ittehad Town area when the two suspects in the house opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police also fired back, killing one suspect, Rauf, on the spot while his companion managed to escape.

The police also recovered a weapon, motorcycle and Rs2 million cash from the deceased suspect’s possession. The two suspects killed the poultry farm cashier and the other person while they were on their way in a car to deposit cash amounting Rs13.5 million to a bank. The suspects are said to be involved in other crime incidents as well. Further investigations are under way.
