Back in May, I visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Department office in Peshawar to renew my expired drivers licence. After going through the prescribed procedure, all applicants were issued tokens for collection of their renewed licences within a week’s time. I visited this office time and again and kept checking the online portal but, as of writing, I have yet to receive my new drivers licence, more than three months later. This leads to extreme inconvenience, especially when one is travelling on the motorway as a token for renewal is not accepted as proof of a licence by the motorway police.
The professional heavy vehicle drivers are often caught in this same situation and end up paying huge fines due to the non-availability of a computerized licence. I would like to request that the transport authorities ensure the issuance of computerized licences to all drivers in a timely manner.
