HEC takes initiatives for empowerment of students

PESHAWAR: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad has launched a transformative journey to cultivate a generation of well-rounded individuals through sports and co-curricular activities by taking several initiatives like talent hunt, youth sports leagues and establishment of sports academies and resource centers in universities across the country.

The commitment of HEC to student empowerment under the leadership of its chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has yielded results.The exceptional performance of universities’ athletes on both national and international platforms is evidence of the results of the HEC initiatives, said a press release, issued here.

Sports and Co-curricular Activities Division, HEC, encompassing a wide range of sports events, has witnessed positive growth and achievements. The initiatives have empowered hundreds of students to excel both academically and athletically, said the statement.

The HEC’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art sports facilities and expert coaching has yielded good results with a record number of medals won in national championships and the 34th National Games, Quetta.

The HEC was bestowed with the title of Best Turn Out Trophy at the closing ceremony of the event to acknowledge its performance, which underscores HEC’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing champions.

Dr Mukhtar said that sports are an integral part of a well-rounded education, and HEC was committed to fostering a thriving sports culture in the universities.Javed Ali Memon, Director of Sports and Co-Curricular Activities Division, HEC emphasized the importance of sports in character development and nation-building. “Our focus is not just on winning medals but on developing well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society,” he said.
