The Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation’s (KWSC) pumping station at Dhabeji was shut down on Monday due to a sudden power breakdown by K-Electric.

According to the spokesperson for the KWSC, the power breakdown has resulted in a complete halt in pumping operations at Dhabeji. The power breakdown occurred at 11:30am, and the power supply was restored at 1:45pm.

The spokesperson for the KWSC stated that due to the breakdown and resulting water back pressure, a 72-inch MS line (line number five) and a 72-inch PRCC line (line number one) burst. Upon receiving information about the affected lines, KWSC officials inspected the site. During this inspection, Chief Executive Officer Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed directed the relevant officers to urgently complete the restoration work on the affected lines to prevent any inconvenience to citizens. In this regard, KWSC officials started the restoration work immediately.

According to officials, the repair work on the 72-inch MS line (line number five) will be completed within 24 hours, while the repair work on the 72-inch PRCC line (line number one) will take seven days.

They said the repair work may face difficulties due to rain. Additionally, the service of all KWSC hydrants was temporarily suspended due to the breakdown. According to the Hydrants Cell in-charge, KWSC services will be restored to all hydrants once the water supply resumes. The city’s water supply has been resumed after power was restored at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
