Punjab CM approves summary for 5 new tehsils in Lahore

Ratio of population has also been kept same in Lahore district, previous 5 sub-units have been further divided into 5 (total 10) divisions

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the summary for the establishment of 5 new tehsils in Lahore, while the summary has been sent to ministers for approval through circulation.

The Punjab government has appointed 5 Grade-17 officers from different tehsils of the province as assistant commissioners for the five new tehsils of Sadar, Wagah, Shalimar, Ravi and Lahore City.

Among the officers transferred by the Punjab government to Lahore are Assistant Commissioner Gujranwala City Abdul Wasit Siddiqui, Assistant Commissioner Sharqpur Fatima Arshad, Khawaja Muhammad Umeer Mehmood from the Chief Minister’s Office, Assistant Commissioner Mankira Muhammad Saleem and Section Officer Welfare Wing Services Department Adil Umar.

The Chief Secretary Punjab, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, has issued instructions for the budget and administrative affairs of these five tehsils of Lahore to implement the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The new Tehsils have been created within the existing geographical boundaries of Lahore District. The ratio of the population has also been kept the same in Lahore district, the previous 5 sub-units have been further divided into 5 (total 10) divisions.

According to the documents, approval has also been given to recruit 210 (42 in each tehsil) employees in these five tehsils. The staff of each tehsil consists of one assistant commissioner of Grade 17, one tehsildar of Grade 16, two assistants of Grade 16, two stenographers of Grade 15, four senior clerks of Grade 14, two computer operators of Grade 12, 6 junior clerks of Grade 11, two telephone operators of Grade 11, 2 drivers of grade 5 and 20 messengers, peons, sweepers, dock runners and watchmen of Grade 1 are included.

Development and non-development expenses for each assistant commissioner’s office of new tehsils, the demand of Rs2,822,084 has been fixed.

According to the documents, the potential annual income of the five tehsils of Lahore, including TMEs, land revenue and water rate, will be Rs10 billion 85 crore 97 lakh and 72 thousand.

An additional budget of Rs7 crore 28 lakh and 44 thousand will also be given to the District Education Authority for the five new tehsils.

According to the last census, the population of Lahore has exceeded 1 crore 30 lakh. The establishment of more tehsils was inevitable to run the administrative affairs of Lahore. Sources said the population of assistant commissioner, City area, Lahore city, was 80 lakh, which is more than many big districts.
