PESHAWAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) provincial finance secretary Ziaullah Afridi on Sunday asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to resign following the corruption charges against him by a provincial minister.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that the chief minister should have removed government officials along with minister Shakil Khan and brought them to justice.

He said that Shakil Khan should have been arrested along with the three government officials if he was involved in corruption.

The ex-minister should file a case in the National Accountability Bureau, he said, adding that the most serious part of Shakil Khan’s allegation was that some elements had taken Rs100 share as well.

He said that Shakil Khan should identify the power that be who took how much of the ‘extortion.’

He said that the chief minister was playing the accountability game, adding that he should constitute an independent commission.

The PPP leader said that including his own people in the commission was just an eyewash as they could not do any inquiry.

He also asked the chief minister to withdraw stays in the previous cases.

“The independent commission should consist of judges, opposition members and journalists to conduct a transparent probe,” he suggested, alleging that the provincial government had misappropriated the World Bank money.

He rejected accountability through “personal servants” and added that the poor condition of the hospitals, traffic problems,

poor sanitation and drainage system in the provincial capital were the testimony of PTI governments’ performance over the last 10 years. He said that no other political party had raised these issues.
