During a meeting with his subordinates on Sunday, Sindh police chief IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon ordered taking strict action against human trafficking, including the organised groups responsible. Officials said that on the IGP’s directions, the CPO Operations AIG wrote to all the Addl IGPs, DIGs and SSPs of the province.

Memon also ordered the police to register FIRs against the owners of the buildings and houses that are being used in this crime, and to take strict action against them.

All officers have been directed to take strict legal action against organised human trafficking and the crimes related to it in any form within the limits of their respective police stations.

The IGP ordered registering FIRs against the suspects, and their guardians and facilitators. He mentioned the complaints of organised crime and activities such as human trafficking, and brothels being run through it. He warned that inaction against such crimes would be deemed as support for them.

Police stations

Memon later issued orders to the officers of all ranges, zones and districts about security and cleanliness at police stations. The Sindh Operations AIG wrote to all the Addl IGPs, DIGs and SSPs of the province.

The district SSPs have been told to ensure better security and sanitation at police stations. Duty officers have been ordered to be more careful and active in security and cleanliness arrangements, while district SSPs have been directed to use the funds as usual.

Police have also been told to promote the structure of security and sanitary duties, and to ensure security deployment at the main gates to deal with any untoward incident. “Employees on security and sanitary duties must be physically fit, aware of security duties and equipped with weapons,” reads the letter.

“Priority should be given to cleanliness of police stations. Duty officers and SHOs will be awarded rewards in this regard. District SSPs should visit police stations to check if the security mechanism and manpower situation is appropriate.”
