PHC ex-judge Saleem Khan passes away

NOWSHERA: A former judge of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Saleem Khan, passed away here on Friday after a brief illness.

His funeral prayer was offered on Manakhel cricket ground in Nowshera Kalaan. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Tarakai. PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, District and Sessions Judge of Nowshera, Muhammad Asif Khan, government officials, relatives, friends and people from other walks of life attended the last funeral rites of the deceased.

He was the father of Saeed Khan, cousin of Dr Mushtaq Khan, Khizer Khan and Ayaz Khan. His wife had died in 1996. Saleem Khan was born to Munir Khan and his wife in 1946 and belonged to the Muhammadzai tribe of Manakhel area of the Nowshera.

He matriculated in 1961 from Government High School No 1, Nowshera which was then called Islamia High School, did an FA from Government Degree College, Nowshera in 1963, BA from Edwardes College Peshawar in 1965 and an LLB from Khyber Law College, University of Peshawar in 1968 and MA Arabic from the same university,

Saleem Khan launched the law practice from Nowshera. He was appointed civil judge in Bannu after passing the law examination in 1975. Saleem Khan was elevated to the PHC in 2008. Late Justice Saleem Khan was known for his uprightness and integrity throughout his judicial career.
