WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has extended felicitations to the people of Pakistan on the 77th Independence Day.

In a statement on Wednesday, he said that for the past 77 years, ties between the people of the two countries served as foundation for bilateral relationship. “In the years ahead, we will deepen the US-Pakistan partnership and expand our people-to-people ties to build a more prosperous future for both our nations. We look forward to continuing a partnership that makes both countries more secure as we strengthen our shared commitment to democratic principles and respect for the rule of law. I wish all those celebrating today in Pakistan the United States and across the world a joyous Independence Day.

Meanwhile, in a video message, US Senator Van Hollen said: “I m very pleased to join all of you in celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day. Over the past 77 years, the people of the United States and Pakistan have built strong bonds of friendship. And I look forward to doing my part to continue to strengthen our relationship. Throughout my life, I experienced the generosity and warmth of Pakistani people. And here in the United States, the Pakistani American community has made enormous contributions to our country in every field. They serve as important bridge builders between our two countries. So I’m honoured to join you on the special occasion. And I wish all Pakistanis a very Happy Independence Day.

US Congressman from Texas Pete Sessions said August 14 was a day of celebration, honour and pride that came from Pakistani Americans as they lived in the United States, helping make America and Pakistan stronger. In a message, he said: “Today we honour not just relationship with Pakistan but the lives of people who make our world even better.” He said commerce medicine and technology were all areas of contribution that so many Pakistani Americans made.
