NOWSHERA: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said on Wednesday that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were patriotic and true Pakistanis, who had rendered matchless sacrifices for the independence of Pakistan and the war against terrorism.
Speaking at a ceremony held in connection with the 77th Independence Day here, he said that various events were being held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the merged districts, as part of the impendence celebrations were a testimony to the fact that residents of this part of the country were patriotic and had so much love for the motherland.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) former lawmaker Ikhtiar Wali and others also addressed the event.Atta Tarar called upon political opponents to join hands with the government to steer the country out of the prevailing economic crises.
Recounting the PMLN’s previous governments’ achievements, he said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif conducted nuclear tests despite the world pressure, ended electricity loadshedding and promoted businesses by linking the country with motorways and highways.
“The country would have become an Asian Tiger if the PMLN government had not been sent packing through conspiracies by anti-Pakistan elements in the yesteryears,” the minister said.He added that the PMLN government had said goodbye to the international monetary institutions, including the IMF and World Bank but the incapable and incompetent past rulers again pushed the country to the huge debts.
The federal minister admitted that the nation was facing unprecedented inflation, unemployment and high electricity and gas tariffs but the situation would soon stabilize owing to the robust steps being taken by the government.
He emphasized the need to address these issues and learn from past experiences to plan for the future.Tarar said that PMLN always practiced the politics of love, peace, respect and co-existence while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had spread hatred and indecency during its tenure which badly affected the society.
