This letter refers to the news reports ‘Incumbent rulers provoking military to dismantle PTI, says Imran Khan’ (August 8, 2024) and ‘Cooperation between government, institutions at unprecedented levels: PM’ (August 8, 2024). When the PTI was in power it did the same thing it is now accusing others of. With the help of both provincial and federal law enforcement, it tried to send everyone from the opposition to jail, filed a number of court cases and tried to dismantle rival parties.
In the second news report quoted above, the PTI was also repeating the mantra of being on the 'same page' with the institutions during its time in power. Nothing has changed. History brutally repeats itself but it is up to us to learn lessons from history. If we don’t, we will keep doing the same things again and again, but expecting different results, which is the definition of insanity.
