Lahorites all set to celebrate 77th I-Day today

LAHORE:As the green and white colours prevailing everywhere in the city, the Lahorities are ready to celebrate the 77th Independence Day with the traditional zeal on Wednesday (today).

As usual, the Independence Day is expected to be festive and noisy as every city area was echoing with the sounds of trampolines. Stalls selling big and small trampolines were seen on all major roads and in every nook and corner of the provincial metropolis on the eve of key day. These stalls were also selling the national flags, t-shirts, buntings and other Independence Day related items.

Metallic badges with pictures of prominent personalities, especially Quaid-i-Azam, PMLN Chief Nawaz Sharif, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Benazir Bhutto and others were also sold on the stalls. Majority of the public and private buildings on all the major city roads were decorated with lights, flags and buntings. These included the Civil Secretariat, DC Office, Town Hall, Governor’s House, Wapda House, GPO, High Court, Customs House, Diyal Singh Mansion, LDA head office in Johar Town, Alfalah Building etc. The district government, MCL, LDA and all the other allied departments also planned flag hoisting ceremonies besides decorating their headquarters.

The main flag hoisting ceremony will take place at Hazoori Bagh after which the change of guard ceremony at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum will be held. CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz will hoist the national flag and may make a public address. The second most attracted ceremony will take place at Wagah Border where a large number of people and VIPs will attend the event. The other prominent flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at the Wapda House, the Railway Headquarters, LDA office, Wasa office Gulberg and the Town Hall. Azadi Float reached Minar-i-Pakistan, where it was warmly welcomed by Punjab’s Minister of Information, Azma Bokhari.
