ISLAMABAD: Former DGISI Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed was found involved in political interactions in violation of the post-retirement military code of conduct.
Sources said that after his retirement, he was warned not to do it but Gen Faiz avoided such warnings, which consequently became the reason to proceed against him. ISPR’s press release issued on Monday, has two parts. The first part was regarding inquiry about allegations of the owner of Top City, a housing society in Islamabad. On this issue, the release said, “Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed, under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.”
The second part of the press release without sharing any details said, “In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post-retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody.”
The absence of relevant details in the press release led to all sort of speculations about “multiple instances of violation” by Lt Gen (R) Faiz. When asked whether these instances include any of Lt Gen (R) Faiz’s connection with May 9 attacks or its planning, a source said, “So far there is no such evidence available. But we can’t say if during the course of interrogation of LT Gen (R) Faiz, something concerning his role in May 9 attack surfaces.”
It was also claimed on Monday that the relevant quarters got evidence in 2023 about Lt Gen (R) Faiz’s planning to kill some politicians and journalists during his tenure as DGISI. The sources, however, said there is no such thing against the former DGISI.
