LAHORE: The Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal has criticised what he calls a faction of judges and military leaders for hindering Pakistan’s advancement by placing an “inexperienced” leader at the helm of the nation.
Addressing the media at the Expo Centre on Sunday, Iqbal stated that Pakistan was making strides in development when a select group of judges and generals decided to impose an amateur on the country.
Although Iqbal did not name imprisoned founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, his comments are believed to be directed towards the troubled leader.
Minister while highlighted the significance of agricultural sector in the national economy, asserted that agricultural exports could contribute billions of dollars to the national exchequer.
Pakistan possesses vast potential across all sectors. “To progress, we must enhance our export capabilities,” he remarked.
Commenting on the recent winning of gold medal, Iqbal drew a comparison to the remarkable accomplishments of Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem at the Paris Olympics 2024, stating,
“We should advance just as Arshad Nadeem has elevated the national flag. His journey illustrates that success can be achieved even with limited resources.”
Iqbal further commented, if Arshad Nadeem can secure a gold medal, why can’t this resource-abundant nation attain a ‘gold medal’ in development. He recounted a conversation with Nadeem’s father, who expressed by saying, “I have raised my children through halal earnings.”
Reflecting on the obstacles faced by the country, he noted, “The country has endured numerous challenges —sit-ins, long marches, and judicial rulings have placed us in a precarious position. Pakistan was on a trajectory of progress until a few judges and generals imposed an inexperienced leader upon us.”
Earlier, Minister for Planning & Development, Ahsan Iqbal stated that the advancement of agriculture is vital for ensuring the economic future of the country.
He made these remarks while speaking at the 16th International Food, Hospitality, and Beverages Industry Exhibition and Conference. Iqbal underscored the importance of the expo in promoting Pakistani products on the global stage and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing export levels.
He also stressed the necessity for Pakistani products to comply with international standards and to promote.
