The minorities wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami’s Karachi chapter held a Minority Conference in connection with National Minorities Day at the JI’s city headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, JI Karachi Emir Munem Zafar pointed out that Islam ensures peace and rights for minorities. He also quoted Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah as saying that it is the responsibility of the state to safeguard the worship places of Hindus, Sikhs and other minorities.

Zafar said Pakistan was established on the basis of Islamic ideology but, unfortunately, the ideology has been neglected by those in the power corridors and the idea that Islam and politics are different subjects has been propagated.

He said that a large number of Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and other people live in Karachi peacefully. “We all have to work jointly for the progress and development of the city as well as of the country.”

The JI leader thanked the minorities for their contribution to and their services for the development and defence of the country. He also highlighted the role of the party’s minorities wing in the city council of the local government.

He shed light on the situation of the minorities in the neighbouring India and other parts of the region. He stressed the need to legislate in the United Nations for the minorities’ rights.

JI leader Muslim Pervez said in his speech that all the religious groups need to work jointly for Karachi and other parts of Pakistan. He said that the political and governmental systems in the country are afflicted. He appealed to all the religious groups to support the JI in its struggle against social injustice and feudalism.

Younous Sohan Advocate said that after the inception of the country, the promises made by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah have not been fulfilled by his successors.

He said that the minorities decided to support the JI because of the party’s just agenda, fair dealing of the cause of the minorities and stance on the rights of the minorities. He vowed that the minorities would be hand in hand with the JI in the journey for rights, development and justice.

Kishwar Kumhar Mukhya shed light on the issues surrounding the minorities, and stressed the need for a comprehensive and joint struggle for the rights of all segments of population. He paid rich tributes to the JI over the party’s struggle for the rights of the minorities.

Aneel Singh shed light on the contributions of the Sikh community for the progress and development of the country, particularly of Karachi. Pandit Vijay vowed to continue the struggle for the better future of the country. He also highlighted the sacrifices rendered by the minorities for Pakistan.

On the occasion, Ajraks were presented to the distinguished guests as a token of respect. Muslim and minority leaders jointly sang the national anthem at the event.
