Azadi Marathon draws 4,000 participants
LAHORE : Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race, a major sporting event in Punjab, concluded on Sunday with a resounding success. The event witnessed a massive turnout of over 4,000 participants from all age groups.
Lahore witnessed a vibrant display of athleticism and patriotism for the Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race. The event, organised under the Punjab Chief Minister's 'Khailta Punjab' initiative, was a resounding success, drawing participants of all ages and backgrounds.
One of the highlights of the day was the impressive performance of US Consul General Lahore, Ms Kristin K Hawkins. Demonstrating exceptional fitness and stamina, she completed the challenging 12km race, earning admiration from participants and spectators alike. Her involvement significantly elevated the event's profile and underscored the growing ties between Pakistan and the United States.
The marathon, which included both a 12km race and a 3km family fun run, offered something for everyone. Winners in various categories were awarded cash prizes, inspiring athletes to push their limits. The event was more than just a race; it was a celebration of health, unity, and the spirit of Pakistan.
The 3km Family Fun Race saw Kashf Siddique from Lahore emerging as the winner, followed by Mumtaz Naimat from Karachi and Bushra Farman from DG Khan. The top three finishers in the 12km marathon for girls were Iram Shahzadi, Iman Yasin, and Khadija Afiat. Punjab Minister for Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, lauded the overwhelming participation, stating that it signifies a promising future for sports in the province. The event was organised under the Punjab Chief Minister's 'Khailta Punjab' programme, emphasising the government's commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle.
“The success of the Azadi Marathon is a testament to the increasing popularity of sports in Punjab. It showcased the province's commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and fostering a sense of community. As the nation celebrated its Independence Day, the marathon served as a fitting tribute to the spirit of Pakistan.
“The event's impact extends beyond the finish line. It inspired countless individuals to embrace physical activity and adopt healthier lifestyles. Moreover, it fostered a sense of camaraderie among participants, transcending age, gender, and social backgrounds.
“As Lahore gears up for future sporting events, the success of the Azadi Marathon sets a high benchmark, promising even more exhilarating competitions in the years to come.
“The successful conclusion of the Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race has not only showcased the growing interest in sports but has also strengthened the cultural ties between Pakistan and the United States,” he concluded.
