The Jamaat-e-Islami’s leader of the opposition in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation City Council, Saifuddin Advocate, has condemned what he said an attack on the New Karachi Town Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) office by employees of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) and said that such hooliganism is totally unacceptable.
He claimed that some 15 to 20 employees of the waste management board led by their operations director Farhan attacked the New Karachi TMC office.
The miscreants, he added, locked elected representatives inside the office and thrashed the visitors.
The JI leader alleged that when the police were informed about the attack, they arrived at the office but played the role of a spectator.
He added that similarly, high-ups of the SSWMB also did nothing despite the fact that they were approached.
He said that the deep silence on part of the waste management board as well as government officials indicated that the criminal act was well deliberated.
Saifuddin said the Karachi mayor, local government minister and police did nothing although they were sent a written letter.
The JI leader said that on the one hand, the performance of the solid waste management board was awful, and on the other hand its employees had started threatening elected representatives.
