Uplift schemes worth over Rs11 billion approved

LAHORE:The 15th meeting of Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) Fiscal Year 2024-25 was held under the Chairmanship of Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan in which development schemes of Roads sector were approved at an estimated cost of Rs11.776 billion.

The approved schemes included Rehabilitation of PD Khan, Choa Saidan Shah from Chakwal to Choa Bypass, District Chakwal at the cost of Rs2.399 billion, Rehabilitation of Jhang-Gojra Road at the cost of Rs1.533 billion, New Road from Dari Mero Ladan to Ghous Abad along Link No.1 at the cost of Rs633.986 million, construction of new roads & repair of roads in UCs 57 to 68 Tehsil Kamalia and UCs 69 to 85, Tehsil Pir Mahal, District Toba Tek Singh at the cost of Rs416.312 million, Rehabilitation of Samundri-Sahiwal Road at the cost of Rs2.718 billion, dualisation of road from Chunian to Jambier Mor, District Kasur at the cost of Rs2.525 billion, and rehabilitation of Road from Narowal to , Zafarwal excluding City Rehabilitation of Road from Narowal to Zafarwal, District Narowal at the cost of Rs1.550 billion.

Secretary P&D Board Dr Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Dr Nasir Iqbal Malik, members of P&D Board, heads of relevant departments and other senior representatives attended the meeting.

Seminar on Road Safety

Directorate of Students Affairs of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with City Traffic Police Lahore arranged a seminar on Road Safety and Awareness on Traffic Rules to create awareness about road safety measures here in City Campus on Friday. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus and Chief Traffic Officer Lahore/SSP Ms Amara Athar co-chaired the seminar while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, DSP/Incharge Education CTP Lahore Ms Fehmeeda Zeshan, Education Officer CTP Lahore Muhammad Amir, Director Students Affairs Dr Muhammad Asad Ali and faculty members, students and officials from City Traffic Police attended the seminar. Addressing the audience, Amara Athar said it is necessary for everyone to know about the traffic rules & regulations to curb road accidents. She said that bikers must wear helmets to save their lives. She also spoke about different welfare steps taken by City Traffic Police Lahore regarding attaining of driving licence, learning driving and female mobility to drive bike for their empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus stressed on the importance of following the rules & regulations regarding driving to save their lives from road accidents. Earlier in the seminar, Muhammad Amir highlighted different safety measures and shared information with the audiences through a detailed presentation. He spoke about the factors causing accidents, accident analysis, driving, wrong side overtaking, road instructions on signboards & traffic signals, avoiding fatal over-speeding, vehicle and road conditions, line and lane violation, use of safety belts & helmet and avoiding using mobile phones during driving.
