The Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. (SSGC) has set up teams comprising Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO), Customer Relations Department (CRD) and Recovery Department representatives to fight off the menace of gas theft.

Recently, the SS&CGTO Operation Wing along with the SSGC Police and Recovery Department conducted a joint raid at Screen Printing Factory in Baldia Town, Karachi. A man was using gas directly through SSGC’s main service line. The culprit, Naveed Akhtar, son of Muhammad Ayub, was apprehended on spot and has been arrested for his involvement in this heinous crime.

In another raid carried out at Quetta Harmain Sharfain Koyla Tea Shop at Block-G, North Nazimabad, SSGC police along with its teams identified that the suspects were using gas directly through the company’s service line to run their business, and FIRs have been registered against Muhammad Azeem, son of Muhammad Hussain. Appropriate claims will be raised accordingly against both businesses.

Meanwhile, the CRD teams continue to carry out surveys and identify areas where gas theft is prevalent in heavy numbers, with 3,810 illegal connections being identified through surveys. Over the past week, the team has disconnected 2,808 illegal gas connections in Karachi, while in Quetta, 537 illegal gas connections have been removed.

In Upper and Lower Balochistan, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, and Larkana, 244, 132, 15, and 82 illegal gas connections have been removed respectively. SSGC teams have been working non-stop to uproot this evil from the society, and will continue to bring down gas theft incidences so that this evil could be eliminated, said a press release issued the gas utility.
