PARIS: The Netherlands edged out Germany 3-1 in penalty shootout to win hockey gold in Paris Olympics at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time -- both goals came in the fourth quarter -- and the matter was settled on penalty shootout. The Netherlands got it underway and the first attempt was saved. Germany, too, could not find a way past the Dutch keeper. The second attempt was also saved.
Thierry Brinkman got the first on the board for the Dutch! And Thijs van Dam doubled their lead. Justus Weigand got one back for Germany but then Duco Telgenkamp scored and the Netherlands started celebrating with a 3-1 shoot-out win. India beat Spain 3-1 to win bronze.
