ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Aamer has been designated to be Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The former commander of Gujranwala Corps completed his service tenure in army 11 months ago. He is replacing Syed Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, who has been transferred and posted as ambassador for Belgium and European Union (EU). The government has sought agreemaunt (consent of the host government) for appointment of the new envoy from the UAE government.
Diplomatic sources told The News that Lt. General Muhammad Aamer has vast experience of public dealing and had served as Military Secretary to the President during the first stint of President Asif Ali Zardari. He has served on important various staff, instructional and command assignments.
Pakistan’s high commissioner for New Zealand Murad Ashraf Janjua has been transferred and posted as ambassador for Brazil and has assumed the assignment in Brasilia. Dr. Faisal Aziz Ahmad has been appointed high commissioner for New Zealand. Suljuk Mustansar Tarar, who is ambassador for the Netherlands, has been made ambassador for Indonesia to replace Ameer Khurram Rathore, who is attaining superannuation in a couple of days.
