The Sindh Local Government Commission on Wednesday instructed Gadap Town and Ibrahim Hyderi Town in Karachi to engage in mutual consultation by August 20 to resolve a dispute over the authority to collect taxes on livestock brought into the city for meat and milk.

Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani issued these directives during a meeting of the commission on Wednesday. Officials from Gadap and Ibrahim Hyderi towns presented their perspectives on the livestock tax collection issue.

Following discussions with other commission members, Ghani stated that the commission would resolve the matter in accordance with the law. He noted that the two towns had not yet implemented the commission’s previous advice to settle the matter through mutual consultation. Consequently, the towns had been given an additional deadline of August 20 to reach an agreement. They were required to submit the results of their consultation to the commission by this date.

The commission would make its decision based on the outcomes of these consultations. Additionally, the commission directed two of its members and the Sindh Law Secretary to meet separately with the chairpersons of Shah Faisal and Korangi towns to address issues related to jurisdiction. Reports from these meetings would be submitted to the commission.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Additional Chief Secretary Syed Khalid Hyder Shah, Sindh Law Secretary Ali Ahmed Baloch and others.
