Inter-city bus stations to be relocated outside Karachi

The Sindh government has decided to relocate all the inter-city bus stations outside Karachi and offer free shuttle service to passengers to the inter-city bus stations.

Senior Transport & Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that a free shuttle service would be available for passengers from the old bus stands to the terminal starting August 14.

Memon, who chaired a high-level meeting in Karachi, ordered prioritising the shifting of bus stands outside the city. He said the city’s residents are facing hardships due to heavy vehicles, which also increase pressure on roads.

“All the bus stands are being shifted outside the city, and more modern facilities will be provided to passengers at the Karachi Bus Terminal,” he added.

He also said that the shuttle service is being started from the Cantt Station, Sagheer Shaheed Road, MA Jinnah Road and Al-Karam Square. Through this service, he added, passengers would be provided with free transportation from the old bus bases to the terminal.

He ordered that efforts be made to ensure that residents and other travellers do not face any inconvenience or problems. He stressed that measures be taken with the interests of all stakeholders in mind. The minister said that it should be ensured that transporters are not harmed, and that passengers also benefit. To ensure the safety of passengers, a police checkpoint is being established at the Karachi Bus Terminal, he added. tended the meeting.
