Probe launched into rape allegations

NOWSHERA: The Nowshera police launched a probe on Sunday after a woman accused cops of rape.

A woman, identifying herself as Laraib, in a video message released through social media the previous day, had accused the cops of the sexual assault.The woman said she had gone to the Complaints Cell set up inside the DSP Cantt and DPO Office in connection with a complaint registered against her brothers.

She said her brothers were not around and hence, could not appear before the police and they sent her to submit an application for address at the Complaints Cell and DSP Cantt.The woman in the video alleged she was subjected to rape.

She accused Nek Muhammad, the reader at the DSP Cantt Office, and Ikram, a sepoy at the Complaints Cell, of rapping her. She alleged that another two cops acted as accomplices of the accused.

Acting DPO Alamzeb Khan told the media he had ordered a departmental probe into the allegations levelled by the woman in the video message. He said the two cops in question had been closed to Police Lines.

He said an investigation team had been constituted which was headed by DSP Headquarters, Naseem Khan. The acting DPO said the woman in question could record her statement with the inquiry team.Meanwhile, the two policemen denied the charges.
