PCB to conduct first-ever women’s cricket trials in Sost
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to organise open trials for women across the country from August 5.
Notably, the trials will extend to the picturesque Sost Valley, marking the first time ever that such an initiative has been undertaken in the region. The trials are divided into two phases, with Gilgit, Hunza, and Sost hosting the first phase from August 5 to 7. The second phase will commence on August 21 and conclude on September 3.
Former cricketers Asad Shafiq and Batool Fatima, both members of the women’s national selection committee, will oversee the trials across the country. Players will be selected in two categories: under-19 and emerging. Those born on or after September 1, 2005, are eligible for the Under-19 category.
The PCB has made arrangements for online registration, with physical registration also available at the trial venues. Aspiring cricketers are required to bring their birth certificates or CNICs for verification.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the initiative, former Test cricketer Asad Shafiq stated, “These trials will be instrumental in identifying and nurturing the next generation of women’s cricketers. We are eager to discover talent from every corner of the country and provide them with a platform to shine.”
Batool Fatima, a former wicketkeeper-batter, added, “The open trials represent a significant step forward in our efforts to promote women’s cricket. We encourage parents to support their daughters’ aspirations and urge them to participate in these trials.”
