Wasa to lower green belts of 48 parks

LAHORE : For the improvement of rain management system, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has decided to lower the green belts of 48 parks of Lahore.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on Saturday under the chair of LDA Director General Tahir Farooq and Managing Director Wasa Ghafran Ahmed. Ghafran Ahmed briefed the meeting on the agency’s contingency plans and monsoon preparations for monsoon rains were reviewed in detail. He said green belts of Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Jail Road, Main Boulevard, Walled City will also be lowered gradually. In the meeting, the LDA DG directed the Wasa to prepare a joint strategy with TEPA and PHA. He appreciated MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed for draining out rainwater after record-breaking rains in Lahore. The LDA DG said action should be taken against those who throw rainwater on the roads. He said the private plaza owners should drain the water from the basement and parking lot into the sewage system and for violation, they would face action.

The DG directed that drainage of rainwater from under-construction properties should be ensured in the sewer line, action should be taken on water leakage on the road. Later, the DG along with MD Wasa also visited different points of Gulberg, Maratab Ali Road, Gaddafi Stadium Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg and The Mall.
