Commercial consumer caught stealing gas

LAHORE : In a significant operation against gas theft, a commercial consumer on Band Road, Lahore, has been caught stealing gas worth millions of rupees through a direct bypass.

During an excavation in front of the commercial consumer's main line, gas theft was detected. The accused had connected a direct bypass from the service line using a clamp, and was using the stolen gas for large-scale wire manufacturing in two furnaces.

To steal a larger quantity of gas, the consumer was also using a large compressor. This substantial gas theft was causing a monthly loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. The Special Task Force swiftly acted, disconnecting the commercial meter. Evidence of the direct bypass and compressor was recovered from the site. The accused has been fined Rs 32.5 million and legal proceedings have also been initiated.

Recklessly driven rickshaw kills man

A 70-year-old man was killed by a rickshaw at Peco Road on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Abdul Wahid, was fatally struck by a rickshaw while crossing the road. The eyewitnesses reported that the rickshaw was being driven recklessly when the accident happened. The victim sustained severe injuries and died instantly from the impact. Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, and the body was subsequently transported to the morgue for further procedures.

Homes allocated to families of 50 martyrs

Lahore Police has allocated homes worth Rs782.5 million to the families of 50 martyrs under the Martyrs' Package since 2017.

In addition to the housing aid, Lahore Police has distributed over 12.42 million rupees in scholarships to the children of police employees. For the fiscal year 2023-24, a total of 5.66 million rupees have been given to 18 families of martyrs as dowry fund and over 2.59 million rupees has been distributed among 17 families as maintenance allowance.

Additionally, more than 187,000 rupees have been paid to three families as last month salary.
