LAHORE : Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Dr M Al-Fareed Zafar has said that higher education, advanced training and refresher courses for nurses are inevitable to ensure better care and treatment of patients because without nurses, the healthcare system has no means.

He added that nurses are a metaphor for the selfless spirit, sacrifice, declaration of war against diseases and a hope for the patients in order to protect health. He said that it is necessary to take utmost care in the use of medicines and especially while giving injections, all SOPs should be observed. This was expressed by Prof Al-Fareed Zafar while addressing a seminar organised for nurses on the topic of "Optimizing Medication Management for Safe and Effective Patient Care" at Lahore General Hospital.

On this occasion, ED PINS Prof Asif Bashir, MS Dr Umer Ishaq, MS Dr Frayad Hussain1, Dr Abdul Aziz, DCNS Zumard Khursheed, DF Rubiha Mahmood, Nurses Officers Samra Jameel, Saira Aslam, male nurse Jerry Zahid and other nurses and students participated in the seminar.

LGH Principal Prof Al-Fareed Zafar said that nurses' good behaviour with patients, timely medication, polite behaviour and sweet words can speed up the recovery process of patients. He said that the provision of free medicines for patients by the Punjab government is entrusted to doctors and nurses so their delivery and maintenance of the records is necessary and all stakeholders in this regard should fulfill their responsibilities as a national duty.

He said that many people unnecessarily use painkillers and antibiotics as self medication for quick recovery that causes many complications in the human body. It is important that in this regard, along with the treatment, health professionals should raise awareness among the citizens about not using medicines without a qualified physician or doctor, he added.

Principal PGMI lauded DCNS Zumard Khursheed and her team for organising the Seminar on the important topic and appreciated their efforts.
