Two men, including a donkey cart driver, were shot dead during mugging bids in the New Karachi and Orangi Town areas on Friday.

So far in 2024, at least 85 people have been killed during mugging attempts in the city. The donkey cart owner killed by muggers was identified as Nazeer, 33, son of Allah Dino. The incident took place outside a mosque in Sector 11-E of New Karachi Industrial Area on Friday afternoon.

The victim’s father said Nazeer had gone to the mosque to offer Friday prayers when he was informed that he had been shot. Allah Dino said he rushed to the mosque where he found his son lying on the ground. He himself shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The father said Nazeer had seen some bandits mugging citizens outside the mosque and shouted to make others alert. To this, the robbers opened fire, which killed the man. "I have five children, two sons and three daughters. The elder son is mentally ill, Nazeer used to support the house by driving a donkey cart. He got married a month ago,” said the ill-fated father as he demanded justice.

Police said Nazeer was present on the first floor of the mosque when he noticed the suspects. As he made noise, the suspects opened fire on him. Meanwhile, two armed robbers entered a gas cylinder shop located near Sector 13-H Power House within the jurisdiction of the Orangi Town police. However, some citizens present there pelted them with stones.

The robbers opened indiscriminate fire while fleeing, as a result of which, one person was killed and another injured. West SSP Hafeez-ur-Rehman Bugti along with the SHO and technical team rushed to the scene to investigate the incident. The deceased man was identified as Abid Hussain, son of Taj Mohammad, who was in his 60s. The injured man was identified as Yusuf, son of Zahoor Mohammad, 38.

Police said the incident took place due to resistance during the robbery. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, in which two armed robbers could be seen coming on a motorcycle to the shop.
