Punjab Agriculture Commission formed

LAHORE:Under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Agriculture Commission has been established to promote profitable and sustainable development in the agriculture sector and a notification has also been issued in this regard.

According to the notification, Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has been appointed as the chairman of the agriculture commission. Provincial Irrigation Minister M Kazim Pirzada, Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, MPAs Rana M Saleem and Usama Khan Laghari are the other members of the agriculture commission.

Apart from this, the secretaries of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Irrigation, and Finance are also included as members. In addition, the secretary of agriculture has been appointed as a member/secretary of the commission. There are a total of 31 members in the agriculture commission, including progressive farmers and other stakeholders. Representation to all relevant stakeholders has been given in the Agriculture Commission to resolve farmer’s problems.

The Agriculture Commission will make recommendations for food security, profitable farming, water, increasing crop productivity, climate change and value addition. In addition, this commission will advise the Punjab government on agro-ecology zones and improvement in research and development. The agriculture commission will work through committees and experts will also be included if necessary.
