Islamabad: Pakistan and Kazakhstan on Thursday agreed to enhance their cooperation to address climate risks and challenges related to the environment, energy, air pollution, and water scarcity.

The agreement came during a meeting between Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Climate Change Coordinator, and a delegation from the Kazakhstan Embassy led by Ambassador Yerzhan Kistafin.

The Kazakh envoy conveyed his country's strong interest in increasing people-to-people connections through tourism and engaging in various socio-economic development areas such as bilateral trade, education, research, environmental protection, climate change, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, and efficient water management. He also offered Kazakhstan's full support, including technical, technological, and financial assistance, through collaboration with Pakistan's climate change and environmental coordination ministry.

Romina expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s willingness to collaborate in climate change, energy, agriculture, water management, and eco-tourism. She assured the ambassador of her commitment to mobilise resources to engage with Kazakhstan through the embassy, leveraging Kazakhstan’s expertise in climate risk management, renewable energy, water management, disaster management, sustainable agriculture, and eco-tourism.
