ABBOTTABAD: In an effort to regulate prices at hotels and shops in tourist resorts, an assistant director of Consumer Rights Protection here conducted a surprise inspection of Galiyat, including Nathiagali and uncovered several violations, leading to swift action and fines against the offenders.
During the inspection, Muhammad Ibrahim observed that most hotels were charging exorbitant rates. He penalised those found guilty of overcharging, selling expired products, and failing to display government-notified price lists. The violators were instructed to take corrective measures to prevent future violations.
To ensure a fair and pleasant experience for tourists, the assistant director also issued directives to the staff concerned, emphasising the importance of fair pricing, quality products, and transparency in pricing and product information.
Muhammad Ibrahim told the media that the crackdown aims to protect consumer rights and promote a culture of compliance among businesses in Nathiagali and the surrounding areas, making it a safer and more enjoyable destination for tourists.
He further mentioned that they had been receiving complaints about overcharging from tourists throughout Galiyat, especially from hotels charging nearly double. He fined several hotels and warned them to stop the illegal practice in the future.
