NOWSHERA: Peshawar Commissioner Riaz Mahsud on Wednesday launched the monsoon tree plantation to increase greenery and combat climate change and mitigate its negative effects.
Inaugurating the campaign by planting a sapling at Misri Banda near here, he said that 0.3 million saplings would be planted in the ongoing plantation as part of ‘Green growth” and “Tree for tomorrow” drive.
Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mahsud and other officials of the district administration also addressed the ceremony.Officials of district administration, tehsil municipal administration, Civil Defence, youth volunteers and students participated in the tree plantation. The commissioner said the saplings planted will not only enhance the beauty of the area but also contribute to a better environment in the future. He underlined the need for planting more trees to effectively meet the challenge of climate change. He issued special instructions to all deputy commissioners to ensure the success of the campaign.
He also assured that he would personally oversee the campaign to ensure its successful completion.Under the campaign, 750,000 saplings will be planted in all five districts of Peshawar Division including Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand, and Khyber tribal districts during the monsoon season.Special teams comprising deputy commissioners and district forest officers have been formed for this purpose to make the drive a success.
