An assistant commissioner and her team were attacked by a mob in Ibrahim Hyderi during a tree plantation drive on Tuesday.
According to Quaidabad police, Assistant Commissioner Dr Saira of District Malir’s Ibrahim Hyderi area reported the incident.
She arrived in a vehicle with her staff at the Hospital Chowrangi in the Quaidabad area of Landhi at around 5pm when a group of 30 to 35 individuals armed with sticks and rods assembled with the intent to disrupt the plantation drive. Police responded, with ASI Noor Mohammed Khoso and his team apprehending Asghar Shah, Abu Bakr, Muzammil, Suleiman, and Ehsanullah. Their accomplices fled the scene.
The arrested suspects identified one of the fugitives as Owais Kari alias Umar, who was reportedly armed with a pistol. The attackers interfered with government activities, threatened violence, damaged vehicle windows, and verbally abused officials. Dr Saira intends to pursue legal action against the suspects. The incident has led to charges under sections 147, 148, 149, 353, 324, 186, 427, and 509 of the PPC. A case has been filed against the five detained suspects and one absconding individual.
