MULTAN: A fraud case has been detected in Multan against Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf candidate Imran Ismail who is contesting the NA-246 by-elections as the police have been searching the accused and co-accused for the last five years.
The complainant has now decided to reopen his complaint following disclosure of his candidature to ensure arrest of the accused, it is learnt. Legal experts observed that Imran Ismail may be disqualified from contesting the Karachi by-polls. Mumtazabad police had registered a criminal fraud case No. 1051/2010 under Section 489-F /420 PPC against Imran Ismail and Nadeem Hussain Shah on the complaint lodged by a Multan-based businessman Jamil Akhtar on May 19, 2010.
The FIR states that Imran Ismail had established a company, California Natural Product, and contacted Multan-based businessperson Jamil Akhtar for dealership of his juice brand. Imran Ismail as the director of CNP and Nadeem Hussain Shah as CNP chief operating officer made a deal worth Rs 4 million with the complainant Jamil Akhtar.
Both the accused Imran Ismail and Nadeem Hussein Shah allegedly issued two cheques equal to Rs 4 million as guarantee, but the cheques were dishonoured due to lack of deposit in the account on May 18, 2010. The complainant finally lodged his complaint with Mumtazabad police for registration of a fraud case, but police did not take the matter serious under pretext of accused residing in other province.
Sources close to Imran Ismail termed the allegation of fraud against him totally baseless. They told this correspondent that it was a conspiracy against the candidate of PTI in Karachi. They said Imran Ismail never indulged in corrupt such corrupt practices. They said Imran Ismail will move court against this baseless propaganda.
Complainant Jamil Akhtar told The News that when he visited Karachi, he failed finding out the company in Karachi. The accused Imran Ismail and Nadeem Hussain were repeatedly attempted to contact, but failed in establishing any contact with both of them. He said when he saw footage of Imran Ismail contesting Karachi by-polls, he decided to reopen his case to recover his Rs 4 million.
When Mumtazabad police was contacted, police said the case was registered in 2010. Later, the area of police was divided into two parts including Mumtazabad and Shah Shams police. The FIR was shifted to Shah Shams police area where the complainant was residing.
When contacted, acting City Police Officer Muhammad Salim said concerned area police has been directed locating the record of FIR and it would be provided to journalists. He said the FIR was registered in 2010 and police were tracing it from five years old record.
