East DIG announces arrest of five notorious gangsters
Police on Monday claimed to have busted a notorious gang and announced the arrests of its five members. The gang was reportedly involved in a robbery bid in Malir and the murder of a woman in Gulshan-e-Hadeed.
Police said the five members of the gang had become a symbol of terror in Malir. Their arrests were disclosed by East DIG Azfar Mahesar during a press conference. He revealed that the suspects were arrested by the Federal Intelligence Agency and Malir police. The gang operated with two Corolla cars and motorcycles.
DIG Mahesar explained that most of the gang members were from rural Sindh and after committing crimes, they would hide in Balochistan or rural areas of the province. During a shootout between police and the gang in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, a woman was also killed and investigations were under way into the incident.
According to police officials, the gang had nine to 10 members. Before committing any robbery, they would gather information with the help of their facilitators that watched for people withdrawing money from banks and monitored police movement. The gang was also involved in a failed attempt to rob Rs20 million from a foreign national in Malir.
