Lightning strikes eight people dead in Tharparkar

HYDERABAD: Six people from the same village and two others from another village died after being struck by lightning in the Tharparkar district on Monday.

According to the forecast of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain started with thunder and lightning in the Tharparkar, Umerkot and Mirpurkhas districts of the Mirpurkhas division on in the morning.

Different areas of the Hyderabad and Nawabshah divisions experienced light and heavy rain in the afternoon, reducing the intensity of the heat. Intermittent rains continued in Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Samaro, Digri, Naukot, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Hala, Sanghar, Khipro and other areas.

Six people from the same village were killed by lightning in Hajan Akaro Bhel of the Tharparkar district. They were identified as Ramesh, Ranjeet, Bhamru, Sagna, Vikram and Anita. Another victim named Tabu suffered burns and is undergoing treatment at the Mithi Hospital.

Moreover, 11-year-old Farzana and Shafi Muhammad of the Chelhar town also died due to lightning strikes in the Khamiso Mangrio village. According to local sources, seven cows also died in the village, while there are also reports of other animals dying.

According to the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company spokesperson, 210 feeders of 11kV were tripped due to rain in different cities, for which teams are on alert. As soon as the rain stops, the technical staff will restore power after full safety clearance and patrolling, said the spokesperson. According to the PMD, under the current monsoon system, Sindh is likely to receive rain in different districts until July 31.It also rained in different areas of Karachi on Monday. Some areas of the city received light rain in day hours while in the night, it rained moderately in Saddar and other areas.
