LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Saturday strongly condemned the horrific assault on a woman by her family members over filing a case against her husband in district Naushahroferoze.

According to reports, the woman’s family members subjected her to physical torture, reportedly breaking her legs, allegedly because she had initiated court proceedings against her husband. “The case of women like Sobia Batool should serve to remind us that gender-based violence has long been normalised in patriarchal societies,” the HRCP said.

“Given that Ms Batool is in critical condition, we urge the Sindh government to ensure that she receives the best possible care. The perpetrators of this crime must be held to account,” the HRCP added.
