Three die in Nowshera coalmine tragedy

Rescue operation continued late into the night, eventually recovering the bodies

NOWSHERA/ ALPURI: Three miners died due to the accumulation of toxic gas in a coal mine at Nizampur Darwazgai here. Among the deceased were two brothers.

The bodies of the three miners were retrieved from the coal mine and shifted to their native area in Shangla district. According to Sabir Abad Check Post In-charge Irfan Khan, Bakht Zada and two brothers, Ameen Ali and Azeemullah, suffocated to death due to the toxic gas. The rescue operation continued late into the night, eventually recovering the bodies. The labourers have demanded financial compensation for the deceased according to labour laws. It was also reported that the coal mining operations were being conducted illegally, with no safety measures in place for the workers. Furthermore, there were attempts to cover up the incident, and the media only learned about the miners’ deaths a day later. Meanwhile, the deceased were laid to rest in Banjarsari Pirabad in Alpuri tehsil of Shangla district. A large number of people attended the funeral.
