‘Public libraries to be equipped with modern facilities’

LAHORE:Urdu Science Board (USB) Director Ziaullah Khan Toru met the Secretary Archives and Libraries Punjab Zahoor Hussain at the Punjab Civil Secretariat here Friday.

During the meeting, Ziaullah Khan Toru briefed Secretary Archives and Libraries on the goals and objectives, current and future publication projects of Urdu Science Board. Zahoor Hussain said that libraries play a key role in the promotion of knowledge and book reading.

The Punjab government is paying special attention to the provision of more modern facilities in the existing public libraries, along with the purchase of new books. With the support of the Punjab Information Technology Board, several e-libraries have also been established where readers and researchers can use digital and e-books, he added.

Secretary Archives said that the publications of government publishing institutions were kept in public libraries as a priority. The secretary appreciated the services of the Urdu Science Board for the promotion of science in Urdu. He assured that public libraries in Punjab would cooperate with the Urdu Science Board and the publications of the board would be made part of the libraries. Ziaullah Khan Toru presented the Urdu Science Encyclopedia and other books to the Secretary Archives and Libraries.

Health Centre opens at PU

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood on Friday inaugurated the Mother & Child Healthcare Centre, free immunisation programme, mobile medical unit, van service for delivery of medicines, outdoor and reception equipped with modern facilities at health centre.

In this regard, a ceremony was held in which PU Chief Medical Officer Dr Muhammad Akram, Head Medicine Purchase Committee Health Centre Prof Dr Zeeshan Danish, Deans, faculty members, administrative officers and employees were present.

In his address, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said that PU teachers, employees and students would benefit from the launch of this package related to health facilities. He said that the community of New Campus had been provided with emergency facilities at their doorstep even in the evening hours.
