Food dept’s data system to be made efficient, says secretary

LAHORE:Punjab Food Secretary Moazzam Iqbal Sipra has said that the application will be upgraded to make the data system of the food department more efficient. He presided over a meeting which discussed departmental affairs here on Friday.

The Punjab food department’s field operation and other areas database would be made, he said and added that an application of food department’s database would be upgraded. To improve transparency in the department procurement would be made under e-policy, he maintained.The Food Authority DG, Punjab Cane Commissioner and others also attended the meeting.

PFA seals two sweets units

The Punjab Food Authority teams raided sweet and confectionery units in Mohlanwal and Gajjumatta areas. During the inspections, the teams uncovered, 210 litre contaminated and substandard soft drinks, 50 kilograms of expired dough, over two maunds of defective toffees containing harmful chemicals. Two confectionery units were sealed, and substantial fines were imposed.

Additionally, the inspections revealed unsanitary and fungus-ridden freezers and poor hygiene and cleanliness practices within the premises while non-food grade packaging materials was also being used.

PFA DG Asim Javed emphasised that the use of substandard and expired materials in food products can lead to digestive issues and infections.He stressed the need for strict adherence to food safety laws in the production of candies, toffees, and sweets.
