The leader of the opposition in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation City Council, Saifuddin Advocate, had demanded the government place the water supply, sewerage and solid waste management under the authority of elected representatives overseeing towns and union committees (UCs).

The JI leader expressed these views while talking to local government elected representatives at the opposition chamber on Friday. Given the fact that Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation was headed by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and he was also the head of the solid waste management authority of Karachi, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader was directly responsible for all the woes of the people of Karachi, the JI leader said. He suggested that the only way forward to address the issue was to link the two organisations to the UC level.
